BOM – Heartless

You will now notice ( if it was not clear enough before, now it will be) that I love Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland! I love the characters, the story and I’m trying to read more retailing to keep the story alive. Heartless is one of the retailing I read and I have to say that I fall in love with each page. It’s a standalone released in February 2017, so it’s quite new. The book is written by Marissa Meyer, the author of the Lunar Chronicle (which I’m currently reading).

The summary on the book goes like

“ Long before Alice fell down the rabbit hole…

And before the roses were painted red…

The Queen of Hearts was just a girl, in love for the first time.”

Here’s a video I found on YouTube with the plot and no spoilers!

And it can’t be more true ! I don’t want to give too much of the plot because it’s so good and I don’t want to spoil your experience. But I’ll try to explain it a bit more. Indeed the story happens before Alice even came in Wonderland. We follow the story of Catherine, our main character, and her life full of love, adventures, baking, friendships and struggles. This story is light and heavy at the same time ! It had me smiling, crying my eyes out and wanting to meet every character (except Peter… Peter’s a dick). If you are familiar with the Alice of Carroll, you will smile at some hints left behind by Marissa. Once again, this book is a jewel on a crown of heart!

I found that the characters were interesting in their past present and future. You can really see their evolution and I was pleased with that. And Jest… Oh Jest ! I fell in love with every word !

I can’t recommend this book enough ! Give it a try and tell me how you fell about it !

To be allright implies and impossible phase. We hope for mostly right on the best of our days. -Jest

I would enjoy a cup of tea. I take mine with lots of cream, and no tea. Thank you.  -Cheshire
